The "Bad House"

Nothing in this post sounds as scary as anything you'll see in a movie.  I realize that my experiences were mild to say the least but I'm not complaining.  If you read this and you're expecting something like The Exorcist   or Demon House  you'll be disappointed.  Just because I didn't have those experiences though doesn't mean that what I did experience was any less frightening to me.  When I was about 8 years old, my family moved into what I have come to call the "Bad House".  The house was bad for a number of reasons.  It was a tumultuous time for both me and my family in all ways possible.  It was also one of the scariest times of my life. Before I continue further, a general description of the layout of the house with some room descriptions based off of how my parents labeled rooms.  It is a one story, three bedroom two bathroom house.  There is a good-sized front and back yard.  When I lived there there was a solid ...

A cute Gerard Butler story

So I was hanging out at my buddies' house watching Geostorm .  If you are unaware of what movie I am referring to, feel free to refer to my movie blog for further information.  Geostorm  stars Gerard Butler as a scientist who is trying to save the world.  So the middle girl of my friends' their twelve-year-old is intently watching the movie.  At one time she sits up a little straighter and asks, "Who is that?" Gerard Butler's face happened to be the most prominent on the screen at that moment.  I respond, "That's Gerard Butler."  "What's he been in?" She asks. "Lots of things."  I reply and my mind starts to race as I try to imagine what she could have seen him in considering that quite a few of his well known films are rated R.  Without missing a beat, her father, who is also watching the movie, pipes up.  "He's in The Phantom of the Opera .  He's the Phantom." "Oh."  She responds.  A...

A cute Sherlock story

I watch and have a lot of movies and quite a few shows.  Among my movies and shows, I have Sherlock Holmes movies as well as the show Sherlock.  Besides enjoying watching movies and shows, I also enjoy showing movies and shows to my friends.  Shortly after I became aware of the excellent show Sherlock I showed an episode to my friend who happens to have three wonderful girls.  The girls all watched and enjoyed the show although they didn't understand all of what was happening and referenced in the show.   My friend and her children liked the episode so much that they ended up watching all of the rest of the seasons that were available to watch up to that point. Some time later, I went over to the same friend's house to show and watch the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes films.  The girls were very excited at the prospect of seeing their favorite detective and so they all gathered, eager to start the show.  Almost as soon as the first movie started ...

Memorial Day

Memorial Day is pretty much over by now I know but I there is a little something bothering me regarding this holiday that I feel like sharing. I work in retail at present and on the overhead at my work they kept playing a "Happy Memorial Day!" message.  I was a little bothered.  Memorial Day isn't Christmas or Fourth of July.  It seems inappropriate to me to say "Happy Memorial Day!"  or "Happy Memorial Day Weekend!"  It's the equivalent of saying "Happy Day that your [insert loved one/friend here] died!"  I'm not saying that people shouldn't enjoy Memorial Day weekend off.  It's time off for quite a few people.  It's the "unofficial" beginning of summer.  It's a time to barbecue/grill stuff and hang out with family and friends. I just feel that there's more solemnity to Memorial Day than most other holidays.  Some people don't even consider this a "real holiday".  To an extent I agree...
