Memorial Day

Memorial Day is pretty much over by now I know but I there is a little something bothering me regarding this holiday that I feel like sharing.

I work in retail at present and on the overhead at my work they kept playing a "Happy Memorial Day!" message.  I was a little bothered.  Memorial Day isn't Christmas or Fourth of July.  It seems inappropriate to me to say "Happy Memorial Day!"  or "Happy Memorial Day Weekend!"  It's the equivalent of saying "Happy Day that your [insert loved one/friend here] died!"

I'm not saying that people shouldn't enjoy Memorial Day weekend off.  It's time off for quite a few people.  It's the "unofficial" beginning of summer.  It's a time to barbecue/grill stuff and hang out with family and friends.

I just feel that there's more solemnity to Memorial Day than most other holidays.  Some people don't even consider this a "real holiday".  To an extent I agree as far as the use of the word holiday.  I personally generally associate the word holiday with happy occasions.

Whether you consider it a holiday or not it is still an important day of observance.  The name says it all.  Memorial Day is intended to remember those that have fallen in the course of fighting for the freedom of this country and to a degree freedom of some other countries.

So, while you have enjoyed your holiday (if you were one of the fortunate people to not have to work today) give a thought to those that have died for the freedoms that you enjoy.  If you are religious maybe a prayer as well as a thought.

If I have offended anyone I apologize.  To those who have lost a loved one or loved ones in the service, my thoughts and prayers to you and yours.

The "Bad House"

Before I continue further, a general description of the layout of the house with some room descriptions based off of how my parents labeled rooms.  It is a one story, three bedroom two bathroom house.  There is a good-sized front and back yard.  When I lived there there was a solid ...
